Electricity production via renewable sources surges in Kazakhstan

Over 1.4 billion kWh of electricity were produced in Kazakhstan in 1H2020, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy.

According to the report, some 496.2 million kWh of produced electricity accounted for wind farms, 331.3 million kWh for smaller hydropower plants, 603.4 million kWh for solar parks, and 2.5 million kWh for bioelectricity plants.

The share of electricity produced by the country’s renewable energy sources amounted to 1.08 percent of overall electricity production in 1H2020.

The overall volume of renewable energy electricity produced in 1H2020 was 55 percent more than in 1H2019.

The total capacity of Kazakhstan’s renewable energy sources (RES) will increase from 1,507 MW to 1,769 MW by the end of 2020.

Currently, the country has 105 renewable energy facilities operating with a total capacity of 1507 MW. These include wind power plants with a capacity of 390.9 MW; solar power plants with a capacity of 883.6 MW; hydroelectric power plants with a capacity of 224.69 MW, as well as bioelectric power plants with a capacity of 7.82 MW.
