STAR Refinery of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR in Turkey determines its crude oil purchasing program and oil varieties depending on the efficiency of its modeling, SOCAR Turkey told Trend.
Regarding the reports saying that STAR refinery has sharply reduced its purchases of Russian Urals oil in 2020, SOCAR Turkey said STAR Refinery has not made such a statement to any news source.
“From time to time, we can use crude oil from different sources. Since STAR is a new refinery equipped with advanced technology, it can process crude oil mixtures with API gravity faliing between 28 and 36 degrees. Therefore, we can buy and process different types of crude oil from different countries in our refinery. Depending on our production model and planning, we decide dynamically which oil will be the most efficient for that period,” said the company.
The opening ceremony of the Star oil refinery took place on October 19, 2018, in Izmir, Turkey. Its refining capacity is 10 million tons of crude oil per year.
