BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr.23

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR has purchased 3 aframax type crude oil carrier tankers from the Greek Kyklades Maritime Corporation for $120 million, Trend reports via Greek media.

The tankers’ capacity is 115,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT) each.

The tankers will be delivered to SOCAR's shipping company in Q3 2021, and they will be named after the senior commanders who were martyred in the Second Karabakh War.

M/T NISSOS SCHINOUSSA, M/T NISSOS THERASSIA and M/T NISSOS HERACLEA tankers, worth $40 million each, were built by South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries Gunsan Shipyard in 2015.

The tankers’ length and width are 252 meters and 45 meters, respectively.

SOCAR is involved in exploring oil and gas fields, producing, processing, and transporting oil, gas, and gas condensate, marketing petroleum and petrochemical products in domestic and international markets, and supplying natural gas to industry and the public in Azerbaijan. Three production divisions, one oil refineries and one gas processing plant, a deep water platform fabrication yard, two trusts, one institution, and 23 subdivisions are operating as corporate entities under SOCAR.

SOCAR conducts various petroleum activities in countries such as Georgia, Turkey, Romania, Switzerland, Germany and Ukraine, including trading activities, mainly in Switzerland, Singapore and Nigeria.
