Iran begins repair operations in South Pars gas field

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 3

The overhaul of 31 platforms in the Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) has been launched, an official of Iran’s Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC) Hadi Fakhrzadeh said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

Fakhrzadeh stressed that the overhaul of the platforms is estimated to be completed within 157 days.

He added that the repairs in the PD20 and SPD21 platforms were completed within 15 days (April 16 through May 1, 2021) and the platforms were returned to extraction.

The official noted that the platforms are divided into two parts due to the speedy completion of repairs.

As reported, The South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran has so far spent $90 billion on projects of the South Pars gas field.

Iran extracted an average of 690 million cubic meters of gas daily from this field in the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020, through March 20, 2021).
