A barter agreement on electricity between Azerbaijan and Georgia, signed on 29 November 2006, enacted into law on 22 December 2006. The Georgian Energy Ministry informed Trend Special Correspondent that in accordance with the agreement, from 22 December 2006 to 15 January 2007 Georgia will receive 1.8mln KW/hour electricity from Azerbaijan.

A special company Commercial Electricity Operator will be involved in the distribution of electricity in Georgia. As a result Georgia will not suffer from its deficit in the New Year holiday, when demand for electricity increases.

Georgia will return the electricity to Azerbaijan in summer, when the Georgian hydro-electric power grinds work on full capacity.
