The European Union and the Council of Europe will implement two projects totaling 2.2 million euros in Georgia in 2019-2021, said Head of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia Cristian Urse, Trend reports citing Georgian media.

According to him, these projects will help Georgia fight corruption, money laundering and terrorism financing. They will also contribute to a more efficient judicial system.

These projects include a three-year program, which will be realized both at the national and regional levels. At the national level, the projects cover issues such as the improvement of the judicial system, and the fight against corruption and money laundering, as well as the reforms to be carried out in the field of justice, in particular in the field of innovation legislation.

At the regional level, the projects aim to bring observance of human rights, democracy and the rule of law in Georgia closer to European standards.

In Georgia, the first stage of the projects implemented in the framework of the joint program of the Council of Europe and the European Union Partnership for Good Governance (PGG) began in 2015 and ended in 2018. The second phase is scheduled to begin in November this year and extend until 2021.
