Georgia tourism revenues down

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept.16

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Georgia tourism revenues in August 2020 amounted to $14.9 million against 412 million in the same period of 2019, Trend reports via the National Bank of Georgia (NBG).

The decline was caused by the closure of borders due to the pandemic and a shift of the tourist sector’s focus on domestic tourism.

In the reporting period, only 34,600 foreign tourists arrived in Georgia that definitely affected tourism revenues. In the same period of 2019, this figure stood at 753,500.

Revenues generated from tourism sharply reduced in July 2020 and amounted to $ 12.1 million and 37,200 tourists, while in July 2019 - $ 347.7 million and 570,438 tourists.

Meanwhile, in the first two months of 2020, namely in January tourism revenue stood at $153 million (363,600 tourists), and in February - $160, 5 million (434,600 tourists).
