EBRD ready to expand co-op with Turkmenistan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 18

By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is ready to expand cooperation in order to promote business development through financial and consulting services and to build a stable and open market economy, Trend reports with reference to the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.

The review was held during a meeting of Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan Muhammetgeldi Serdarov with the head of the EBRD Representative Office Fatih Turkmenoglu.

Also, the prospects of participation of the EBRD in municipal projects in Turkmenistan and assistance in the development of financial markets in the country were considered.

The parties also discussed issues of financing small business projects, including in new areas for Turkmen entrepreneurship.

In recent years, cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EBRD has been noticeable in the private sector of the economy. In particular, the EBRD has financed a number of projects of the Union members in various fields.

As earlier the representative of EBRD Anton Usov told Trend, the EBRD and Turkmenistan will implement new join projects in 2021.

Supporting private sector development is one of the key strategic priorities for the EBRD in Turkmenistan, he noted earlier.

In Turkmenistan, the bank offers a range of products and services to entrepreneurs including long-term finance directly to local private sector firms, guarantees to help borrowers gain access to financing through our Trade Facilitation Programme via local partner-banks, and business advisory services.
