Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 25 / Trend H. Valiyev /

Delta Telecom's Mobile WiMAX Broadband Wireless Internet will allow providers to render services at the regional level, the company's Technical Director Rahid Alekberli told Trend .

Alekberli said the Mobile WiMAX network will launch Jan. 1.

The infrastructure created by Delta Telecom will allow both the primary provider's and other Internet providers' services to be utilized.

Alekberli said providers are holding talks with Internet service provides to render qualitative wireless broadband services to end-users.

"Copper infrastructure is last century technology. Today, there is a need for technological access via optical communication channels, i.e. so-called technology FTTx. This deals with creating an infrastructure that does not have any relation to public telephone lines," Alekberli said.

The Delta Telecom technical director said today such technology is not developed in Azerbaijan as all internet providers are trying to build their own fiber optic lines.

"If every company deals with the construction of optical communication lines, the diameter of the current existing cable-sewer system must be equal to two meters. So, I think it is necessary to have a single optical infrastructure, a single primary provider, who will sell capacity to other Internet market players," Alekberli said.
