Azerbaijan and Russia will conduct joint research of induced seismicity of reservoirs, the Republican Seismic Survey Center (RSSC) of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) told Trend.

The research envisages the use of modern Russian-made equipment, which will allow studying the induced seismicity, depending on the operating conditions of reservoirs (filling and discharge of water).

“A number of factors cause induced seismicity, which can be reflected in the energy transfer to other sources. There is a whole chain of the events that can happen and should be studied. Of course, studies in this field are conducted daily, but they mainluy concentrate on the observation of seismicity and its dynamics. Nonetheless, there are tasks that require separate financing and human resources. Therefore, this project is put forward for an international grant, after which the work will be carried out jointly with the Russian side. We believe that this project will find its solution already in the fourth quarter of this year,” the RSSC told Trend.
