By Huseyn Valiyev – Trend:

Internet traffic received by Azerbaijan via the infrastructure of the country’s major telecommunication operator Delta Telecom passes two stages of filtering for the detection of cyberthreats and DDoS attacks, a source in the company told Trend Nov. 7.

The hardware platform allows monitoring Internet traffic packets and whenever an anomalous or suspicious behavior is detected, the platform blocks the traffic flow directly at Azerbaijan’s border, according to the source.

“These measures prevent overloading of international channels, which is the first step in protecting the Azerbaijani segment of Internet,” the source noted. “That is, an attack is prevented at the border. However, when a 100 gigabit attack is prevented, a couple of gigabits of malicious traffic still can penetrate Azerbaijan’s territory. Therefore, the IP traffic is redirected to the scrubbing center. Only after all malicious traffic is removed, safe traffic is delivered to the end user.”
