INTERNET-FORUM OF AZERBAIJAN APPLIED TO COUNTRY’S PRESIDENT WITH REQUEST NOT TO SIGN DRAFT LAW “ON TELECOMMUNICATIONS”

The Internet-forum of Azerbaijan applied to the country’s President Ilham Aliyev with the request not to sign the draft law “On telecommunications”, the forum’s press-release, spread on 15 July reads, Trend reports. The bill has been adopted by the country’s Milli Mejlis (Parliament) in the third reading on 24 June of the current year.

The press-release notes, the main reason for such Forum’s position is non-compliance of the draft law to international standards, particularly, conditions for liquidation of regulating and commercialization functions, defining the state policy of the structure and setting up the independent regulating body are not available there and some other important moments, i.e., averting monopoly in the telecommunication sector, licensing rules, non-availability of innumerous rules and etc.

The document specifies, that during the elaboration of the initial bill, independent experts have not been involved to these events and relevant discussions were held very hasty.

The forum also considers, that holding extended discussions with involvement of informational public of the country is needed in this regard.
