WB Acknowledges Perspective for Development of Distance Education in Azerbaijan

Ali Abbasov, the Azerbaijani Minister for Communication and Information Technologies, met with the representatives of the World Bank. Ministry informed Trend that WB Country Manager Gregory T. Jedrzejczak and WB specialists on distance education were present at the meeting.

The key objective of the visit is to hold consultations and talks on rendering assistance in education of Azerbaijan students within the framework of relevant state programs.

WB officials talked about the successes achieved in the sphere of communications and information technologies in Azerbaijan and noted the existence of efficient source for further development of this sector in the country.

Alexander Romizovski, WB specialist, the Director of the Institute for Trainings on Distance Education of the Syracuse University, and Rozita Van Mil, a WB specialist on education systems in Europe and Middle Asia, said that they attach importance to the development of ICT in Azerbaijan, which will further play a leading role in education. WB Specialists said that it will be possible to apply the achievements in the communications and information technologies. They can be applied in secondary schools and carry out alternative education system, particularly, distance education. They have no doubt in successful outcome.
