Microsoft Supports Development of Information Society in Azerbaijan

The Manager for Work with the Partners of the Microsoft Baku Office, Mammad Orujov, stated that Microsoft supports the development of an information society in Azerbaijan, Trend reports.

According to him, many aspects in the co-operation between the Microsoft and Azerbaijan were made clear after a recent meeting between the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev and President of Microsoft, Bill Gates, while at the Economical Forum in Davos.

We will carry out works to support State institutions applying innovation and creating such centers. Special attention will be paid to the question of author rights and strengthening development of bilateral relations with partners. In addition, presently we are implementing a large-scale and significant project on localization of the products of the company and they will be presented to consumers in 2007, he said.

Representation of Microsoft has been functioning in Azerbaijan since February 2006 and its tasks include selling and advancing software, developing the IT market and applying and localizing new technology in the territory of Azerbaijan.

The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, met with the President of Microsoft, Bill Gates, while participating in the World Economic Forum. Informing Gates on the direction of economic policy of Azerbaijan, Aliyev said that the primary goal is to effectively use oil revenues in creating a new economy. According to the State Head of Azerbaijan, creating high technology sectors is a key goal of the State. The President said that favorable conditions have been created in Azerbaijan for the activities of foreign investors in high technology sectors, adding that the primary goal is to equalize the revenue from this area with revenue from oil. Supporting Aliyev, Gates expressed his interest in the economy of Azerbaijan. The Head of Microsoft expressed a readiness to invest and closely co-operate in the field of information technology. We can be partner number one for Azerbaijan, he said and expressed his wish to visit Azerbaijan.
