Some 6.7 million tons of agricultural products were produced in Iran’s north-western West Azerbaijan province this Iranian year (began on March 21, 2019), Rasul Jalili, Director of the Agriculture Organization of the province, said, Trend reports referring to the organization’s website.
Jalili added that 6.4 million tons were produced last Iranian year, 1.1 million tons of apples were harvested this Iranian year, and 750,000 tons of apples were stored in the warehouses.
"Presently, 2,500-3,000 tons of apples are exported to neighboring countries, namely, Russia, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India," the director said.
“Some 400,000 tons of apples remained in the warehouses of the province,” Jalili said. “By the end of the year (March 21, 2020), additional products are expected to be exported or transported to other Iranian provinces.”
He added that 1.2 million tons of sugar beet were harvested this year compared to 2.4 million tons two years ago.
According to him, 235,000 farmers work in the province.
