Japan, Uzbekistan talk over latter's transport and logistics infrastructure

Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov held negotiations with the Japanese delegation led by Mayor of Nagoya (Japan) Takashi Kawamura, who arrived in Uzbekistan on the eve of the visit of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Japan, Trend reports citing the press service of the Ministry.

The leaders of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Uzbekistan Airways JSC, and Uzbekistan Airports JSC also took part in the negotiations.

The parties discussed development of transport and logistics infrastructure - establishing air links between the airports of Nagoya and Tashkent. The mayor of Nagoya handed the official letter of invitation on flights on the Nagoya-Tashkent route to the first deputy chairman of the board of Uzbekistan airways, Umid Khusanov.

In addition, proposals for cooperation on implementation of the project of creating a “dry port” on the basis of the International Intermodal Logistics Center in the Navoi Region were brought up and discussed, drawing on the experience, resources and technologies of leading Nagoya companies.

Kawamura noted that the Japanese government pays special attention to preparing for the visit of the President of Uzbekistan, which promises to be a turning point in the development of investment and trade and economic cooperation and will significantly contribute to the comprehensive rapprochement of the two countries.

Umurzakov focused on the importance of increasing the number of joint projects and reducing the imbalance in mutual trade by establishing supplies of high-quality Uzbek products to the Japanese market, in particular, fresh and dried fruit and vegetable products.

Moreover, prospects of cooperation in the implementation of projects for the production of high-quality textile products and accessories, the production of medicines and medical supplies were considered.

In addition, the potential in the electrical industry and the production of building materials with the use of leading Japanese brands is not significantly involved.

Following the meeting, a sequence of priority joint steps was outlined within the framework of the identified areas of cooperation between the Nagoya City Hall and the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade.
