Due to the epidemiological situation in the world, one of the most relevant aspects in bilateral transport cooperation is ensuring transport security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan told Trend.
"The task is to organize a transportation system that will preserve the number of road and rail cargo, will not contribute to increasing the cost of transit prices, will immediately respond to all the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and will not contribute to the further spread of virus," the Uzbek MFA said.
The ministry pointed out that the countries have carried out work to equip border checkpoints with all necessary devices for disinfection and detection of the disease.
In general, referring to cooperation in the transport sector, the Uzbek MFA pointed out that it contributes to the economic development of the Central Asian states and neighboring regions.
The issues of cooperation in the field of transport and transit are always relevant and are included in discussions at almost all levels of Uzbek-Turkmen cooperation, noted the ministry.
Currently, there are no registered cases of coronavirus infection in Turkmenistan.
As it was reported earlier by Senior Emergency Officer at the WHO Regional Office for Europe (WHO/Europe) Catherine Smallwood, World Health Organization approves and supports all measures taken by Turkmenistan to prevent the coronavirus outbreak into the country.
The outbreak in the Chinese city of Wuhan - which is an international transport hub - began at a fish market in late December 2019.
The World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11 declared COVID-19 a pandemic. Some sources claim the coronavirus outbreak started as early as November 2019.
