Uzbekistan to launch production of electric cars in Fergana region

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug. 15

Construction of an electric cars manufacturing plant continues in Uzbekistan's Kokand city, Trend reports citing the press service of the Fergana region's city hall.

This became known during the visit of Fergana region’s Mayor Shukhrat Ganiyev to Kokand Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

The production capacity of the plant will be 2,000 vehicles per year. Over $40 million will be allocated for the project, including $24 million of foreign direct investment. Shaffof Omadli Sanoat private enterprise is implementing the project

The launch of production is scheduled for October 2022. Approximate cost of Uzbek-made electric car will make up $3,000.

Earlier, Director of Namangan Free Economic Zone, said that SEZ is implementing three promising projects on construction of automotive manufacturing plants.

In total, factories of Uzbekistan produced 143,450 cars in the period from January through June 2020, which is 1.2 percent more than in the same period of 2019.
