Grain transportation via Kazakhstan Railways surges year-on-year

The overall cargo transportation volume via Kazakhstan's Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (Kazakhstan Railways) system increased by 2 percent in Sept. 2020 compared to the same period last year, having amounted to 22.5 million tons, Trend reports citing Kazakhstan Railways..

The coal transportation volume stood at 8.6 million tons, including 5.9 million tons transported countrywide, and 2.7 million tons of coal exported.

Grain transportation amounted to 885,000 tons during the reporting month, which is 28 percent more than in Sept. 2019. This includes 236,000 tons of grain transported across the country (increase by 31 percent), and 649,000 tons of grain exported (increase by 26 percent).

Transportation volume increase was also observed on ferrous metals, the transportation volume of which amounted to 423,000 tons in Sept. 2020, which is 42 percent more year-on-year. The volume of chemical fertilizers transportation amounted to 318,000 tons (increase by 8 percent), of iron and manganese ore to 2.5 million tons (increase by 6 percent), of colored ore to 2 million tons (increase by 10 percent).

Furthermore, the overall cargo transportation volume via Kazakhstan Railways over 9M2020 amounted to 187 million tons, which corresponds to the transportation volume over 9M2019.

This includes over 73 million tons of coal (20.8 million tons of which were exported, 52 million tons were transported countrywide). Grain transportation volume amounted to 6.1 million tons, including 4.4 million tons of export, and 1.7 million tons transported across the country (increase by 4 percent).

Ferrous metals transportation over 9M2020 stood at 3.7 million tons (increase by 9 percent), of chemical fertilizers at 2.9 million tons (increase by 8 percent), of iron and manganese ore at 20 million tons (increase by 2 percent), of colored ore at 17.5 million tons (increase by 15 percent).

Cargo turnover amounted to 169 billion TEU over 9M2020, and to 19.7 billion TEU in Sept. 2020 (increase by 5.5 percent compared to Sept. 2019).
