Georgia's transport corridor to be digitized with US support

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 30

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The transport corridor of Georgia is being digitized with the support of the government of the United States of America, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Genadi Arveladze said, Trend reports via Georgian media.

He made the remark at the Connecting Eurasia: Smart Ports and Rail Forum.

The virtual forum is organized by the US Department of Commerce and the US Embassies in Georgia, Turkey and Azerbaijan to discuss the possibilities of using the latest technologies in the maritime and rail sectors, as well as to raise awareness of the US and international financial instruments.

At the forum, the representative of the Georgian side, Arveladze, drew attention to the role of digital technologies and solutions in ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient transport operations. He highlighted the steps taken to introduce the “single window” principle in Georgian ports and digitize the transport corridor.

“We are implementing this project with the support of the US government. We think that this project will attract more ships to the ports of Georgia, and the development of direct port services will create new jobs, which is very important, especially in the post-pandemic period,” Arveladze said.

Arveladze also noted the current and planned large transport infrastructure projects in Georgia, which are of regional importance and will help to increase the attractiveness of transport routes passing through Georgia. At the same time, American investments in the development of the country's port infrastructure were emphasized.
