Kazakhstan and Russia have agreed to improve the regulatory framework governing Baikonur, a representative of The Central Communications Service of the President of Kazakhstan, Altai Abibullayev said on Thursday.
"On December 19, 2012, during a bilateral meeting in Moscow on the sidelines of a meeting of the EurAsEC Interstate Council and the Council of the CSTO, the heads of our states substantively discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, including the continued sharing of the Baikonur complex.Expressing satisfaction with the two country's long relationship in the space sector, the heads of Russia and Kazakhstan have agreed to improve the regulatory framework for the shared use of the Baikonur complex. They instructed their space agencies to develop a comprehensive bilateral agreement that outlines regulatory procedures for sharing the spaceport, the development of its scientific and technological capacity, the creation of joint defense systems, personnel training and the participation of Kazakhstani launch service specialists", Abibullayev said.
According to him, the relations between Kazakhstan and Russia are in the spirit of strategic partnership, good-neighborliness, friendship and alliance.
Earlier Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry issued a message, reflecting country's interest in further cooperation with Russia at the Baikonur Cosmodrome.
Russia's current lease of the Baikonur complex expires in 2050.
