Kazakhstan, Georgia mull boosting trade & economic co-op

Kazakh Minister for Investment and Development Zhenis Kasymbek says that in order to boost trade and economic cooperation with Georgia the emphasis should be put on mutual promotion of exports and expansion of list of export and import goods.

He made the remarks at a meeting of the Kazakh-Georgian Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation in Tbilisi, reports the press service of the Kazakh Ministry for Investments and Development.

Kasymbek said that over the years of Kazakhstan’s independence, new production facilities have appeared, plants have been modernized in the country.

In Kazakhstan, new products meeting international quality standards are manufactured and successfully exported, he said.

Kazakhstan is interested in delivering its electric locomotives, buses and other equipment, as well as processed agro-industry products, metallurgy products, construction materials, etc.

Kazakh and Georgian sides discussed establishing direct contacts between the business circles of the two countries, opening a representative office of the Kazakh Invest National Company JSC in Georgia, providing long-term trade financing under a program of the Export Insurance Company KazakhExport JSC.

Another important area of ​​bilateral cooperation is to increase transit and transport potential between the two countries.

Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Georgia grew 39.1 percent to $32.4 million in January-July 2017 compared to the same period 2016.

In the reporting period, Kazakhstan’s exports to Georgia reached $19.3 million, which is 90 percent more than in January-July 2016 ($10.6 million).

In turn, Georgian exports to Kazakhstan amounted to $13.1 million, which is 1.5 percent less than a year earlier ($13.3 million).
