Kazakhstan discloses retail trade volumes accounting for businessmen and small businesses

The retail trade volume reached 13.4 trillion tenge ($31.3 billion) in Kazakhstan in 2021, which is by 15.5 percent more in monetary terms compared to 2020, Trend reports with reference to Finprom news website.

Real growth in the sector amounted to 6.5 percent.

Almost two-thirds of retail trade volume accounted for non-food products, moreover, 17.5 percent in monetary terms, 9.6 percent in real volume, up to 8.4 trillion tenge ($19.6 billion). The retail sales volumes amounted to five trillion tenge ($11.7 billion) in the food segment, which is by 12.2 percent more than in 2020 (one percent real growth).

Among the districts of the Republic of Kazakhstan, almost a third of retail trade volumes accounted for the financial center in 2021, 4.2 trillion tenge ($9.8 billion) - for Almaty. Almaty was greatly damaged as a result of the tragic January events [large-scale protests] and the biggest damage accounted for the trade sector.

Moreover, among the top three leaders in terms of retail sales volumes were also Nur-Sultan (1.5 trillion tenge $3.5 billion) and East Kazakhstan region (1.2 trillion tenge $2.8 billion).

A big retail trade volume accounted for private Kazakh companies - 11.8 trillion tenge ($27.5 billion), which is by 11.8 percent more in monetary terms than in 2020. The retail trade volume of foreign companies increased by more than 1.5 times up to 1.5 trillion tenge ($3.5 billion).

Two-thirds of the retail trade volume accounted for businessmen and small companies - 4.7 trillion tenge ($10.9 billion) and 4.2 trillion tenge ($9.8 billion), respectively. Some 1.5 trillion tenge ($3.5 billion) accounted for medium trading enterprises while three trillion tenge ($7 billion) – big trading enterprises.

The trade companies, mainly, micro and small enterprises, were greatly damaged as a result of the pogroms.
