A former Kyrgyz minister of transport and communications, wanted on charges of abuse of office, turned himself in to police, the 24.kg news portal said.

Nurlan Sulaymanov, appointed to office after the 2005 Tulip Revolution in the country, was charged in absentia with abuse of office, including the use of public funds to buy a personal plane, RIA Novosti reported.

"Sulaymanov gave himself up and is cooperating with the investigation at the moment," the Kyrgyz Prosecutor General's office said in a statement.

The ex-minister was released after signing a pledge not to leave the country.
