Deputies of 17 city councils nominate themselves candidates for mayors in Kyrgyzstan

In Kyrgyzstan deputies of 17 city councils will nominate themselves candidates for mayors, 24.kg reported. The press service of the Government with the reference to the Prime Minister of the KRG Almazbek Atambayev reports.

Reportedly, according to the legislation, the Head of the Government has a right to dismiss ahead of time a mayor from office in the case of non-fulfillment or improper fulfillment of the laws and delegated state powers. "The current election of the mayors of the cities will be fundamentally different from the former, as earlier the president alone in the face of the administration determined the candidacy of mayors. Meanwhile elections were formally held on an alternative basis, as well as the second candidate usually took a rejection. According to the new legislation, factions of the city kenesh and the Prime-Minister have a right to nominate candidates for the position of mayor," stressed in the Cabinet of Ministers of the KR.

"It was decided to give the city keneshes a right of nomination and election of the mayors of the cities. My decision is dictated by the necessity of strengthening the democratic foundations of local self-government and the maximum proximity of the decision making processes directly to citizens. I am sure that the deputies of local keneshes, realizing our mission, not yielding to the material rewards and gifts of candidates, will make the right choice and elect the head of the most decent, competent, honest and responsible head, who will serve exclusively the interests of the state," the press-service quotes Almazbek Atambayev.
