Moscow, Bishkek sign documents on stay of Russian military base in Kyrgyzstan

Following talks by the presidents of Russia and Kyrgyzstan, documents were signed on a joint Russian military base in Kyrgyzstan that secures a long term Russian military presence in the Central Asian region, RIA Novosti reported.

Following talks by the presidents of Russia and Kyrgyzstan, documents were signed on a joint Russian military base in Kyrgyzstan that secures a long term Russian military presence in the Central Asian region, RIA Novosti reported.

An agreement on the status and terms of stay of the joint Russian military base in Kyrgyzstan and a protocol on cooperation in the military field in the period before the entry of this agreement comes into force, were signed in the presence of the two leaders.

An agreement relating to stay of the joint Russian military base in Kyrgyzstan will become effective as from 2017. It is signed for 15 years with an opportunity of a five year extension.

The agreement and protocol regulate issues related to the deployment of military facilities and units of the Russian military base in Kyrgyzstan, the order of their work, status and rent.
