A regional workshop on international legal instruments in the management of transboundary water resources kicked off in Ashgabat.

The event was organized with in the Regional Center of Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), headquartered in Ashgabat, with the support of the U.S. government..

Neytralniy Turkmenistan newspaper reported on Tuesday that the event is attended by the representatives of Central-Asian states - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and international and regional consultants of United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS).

In particular, consultants of ECE will make presentations of international agreements - the Water of New York and Helsinki Conventions (UNECE).

Water management issues and creating conditions for environmentally safe and sustainable development in all Central Asian area is one of the most important directions of inter-regional cooperation partner countries in Central Asia.

UNECE promotes international cooperation to prevent, control and reduction of pollution of transboundary waters and their sustainable use.
