The volumes of cargo transportation by all types of transport increased in Turkmenistan in January-March 2015, the Turkmen State Statistics Committee said.

The growth rate for the rendered services in the ministry of motor transport hit 29.3 percent for the reporting period.

The growth rate for the rendered air services in the Turkmenistan Airlines reached 20 percent in January-March 2015. This figure amounted to 6.1 percent and 0.1 percent for freight and passenger transportation.

The growth rate for the conducted work and rendered services in the civil service of maritime and river transport amounted to 35 percent.

The growth rate for the work conducted in the ministry of railway transport reached 13.8 percent.

This index amounted to 0.1 percent in the cargo shipment sector, 1.1 percent in passenger transportation.

Turkmenistan land borders with Kazakhstan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and on the Caspian sea with Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan and Iran. In recent years, regional transport projects have intensified.

A ceremony of launching a new steel main pipeline Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran took place in December 2014.

Last year, construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway began. China, Kyrgyzstan and Iran can join it.

With regard to air traffic, the scope of flights is expanding. Turkmen Airlines prepares to launch flights to Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City, Toronto. Currently, the local airline operates flights to the UK, Germany, UAE, Turkey, India, France and a number of CIS countries.
