Wheat sowing pace picks up in Turkmenistan

Some 760,000 hectares of land were allotted for wheat sowing in Turkmenistan, the Turkmen government said.

According to the message, some 513,755 hectares have been already sown. Some 1.6 million tons of grain are expected to be collected in 2017. Wheat sowing campaign began August 17, 2016.

During a meeting with the regional administration in early September, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov drew attention to the slow pace of wheat sowing.

Turkmenistan was awarded with a special prize by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for achievements in the field of food security.
