BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 13. Efforts are being made to connect the power grids of Iran and the SCO member states from the eastern side of the Caspian Sea through Turkmenistan, Trend reports citing Turkmenportal.

This was stated to journalists on October 9 by the Adviser on International Affairs to the Iranian Energy Minister Mohammad Ali Farahnakian.

According to him, at the moment efforts are being made to connect Iran's national energy system to the SCO member states through a power transmission line passing through Turkmenistan.

He noted that in order to implement this project, it is necessary to build a third power transmission line between Iran and Turkmenistan. On the part of Iran, the construction of a power transmission line to the Turkmen border has been completed, and as soon as Turkmenistan starts implementing the project, capacity of the transmission line will increase by 200 percent.

Furthermore, Farahnakian stressed that at the moment Iran is holding consultations on this project in order to connect its national energy network to the energy systems of the SCO member states through Turkmenistan and Tajikistan.
