Uzbekistan carries out large-scale reforms in the Customs Service, a government source told Trend with reference to the relevant order by President Islam Karimov.

The President has approved a number of directions in which the customs service must develop in order to improve activities, prevent violations of customs laws, smuggling of goods into the territory of the Republic and counterfeit goods.

In particular, the efficiency of customs posts should be increased by improving the organization of management, developing staff capacity, supplying modern scanning and special customs equipment.

Another focus will be the development and introduction of modern methods and mechanisms for customs control and administration, aimed at increasing the openness and transparency of the state customs service in order to prevent possible distortion of factual information about the product in the process of customs registration and other illegal activities.
