Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Nov. 14

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at a meeting held Nov. 13 made a critical analysis of the current state of the country’s geology sphere.
The Uzbek president considered the work of the State Committee on Geology and Mineral Resources inefficient and deemed necessary to develop an entirely new structure of the committee and directions of its work.
It was noted at the meeting that the State Committee on Geology and Mineral Resources of Uzbekistan only carries out geological exploration, while it is responsible for geological research, use, protection and management of subsoil.
The Uzbek president pointed to the lack of a clear mechanism for reasonable subsoil use and protection, as well as mining management.
Mirziyoyev drew particular attention to the long-term prospects of the mining and metallurgical industry, the role of the sphere in the industrialization of Uzbek regions. He instructed to actively attract foreign investments into the industry, develop mineral resources and increase processing volumes, organize new facilities and create new jobs.
