Uzbekistan records slight increase in GDP per capita

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr. 29

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

The gross domestic product (GDP) per capita in Uzbekistan in the first quarter of 2021 amounted to 3.7 million soums ($353.4), increasing by 1 percent, Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

According to the committee, the GDP deflator index slowed down to 11 percent.

During the period under review, GDP per capita growth in real terms slowed down against growth by 2.6 percent in Q12020 and by 4 percent in 1Q2019.

It is noted that the GDP per capita is determined by dividing its total volume in current prices by the average population of the country for a certain period of time.

Thus, from January through March 2020, the average population in Uzbekistan amounted to 33.9 million people, while this year this number increased to 34.6 million people.

Earlier it was reported that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicts that Uzbekistan's GDP will grow by 5 percent.

The IMF advised the authorities of Uzbekistan to reduce the still greater role of the state in the economy and create an environment conducive to private sector growth. According to the IMF, the annual inflation rate will be slightly less than 10 percent due to pressure on food prices and higher wages in the public sector.
