TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, March 28. Contracts and investment agreements worth $7.8 billion were signed as a result of the first Tashkent International Investment Forum (TIIF), Trend reports.

Preliminary agreements were also reached on the implementation of projects worth $3.5 billion.

The event has become a large-scale business event, bringing together more than 2,000 participants - major investors and high-ranking guests from 56 countries.

The first TIIF was held from March 24 through March 26 with the participation of heads and representatives of official structures, large investment, financial and economic organizations and companies from foreign countries, including Azerbaijan, interested in integrating into the dynamically developing market of Uzbekistan.

TIIF is a new platform for the Central Asian region, in the format of which the investment potential of Uzbekistan was presented to international investment and business community.

One of the significant events within the framework of the forum was the ceremony of starting the construction of a new thermal power plant in the Angorsky district of Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya region.The total cost of the project is $1.2 billion.

The power plant with an installed capacity of 1,560 MW will generate 12 billion kilowatt per hours of electricity per year. The latest technologies at thermal power plants will save 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year.

The conditions created in Uzbekistan for the development of business, transport infrastructure, green energy, the financial market, also benefits and preferences for attracting investment in tourism, production of building materials, textile and leather products, and agriculture were discussed during the forum.
