Iran wins gold at World University Games

Iran's runner Sajjad Moradi has snatched the gold medal in the men's 800m run at the 25th World University Games held in Belgrade, Serbia, reported Press TV.

The Iranian athlete managed to win the gold medal in 1:48.02 at the Red Star Belgrade stadium on the final day of the Universiade on Sunday.

Serbian runner Goran Nava took the silver in 1:48.06, while Fabiano Peçanha of Brazil stood in the third place in 1:48.07.

Another Iranian runner, Ehsan Mohajer-Shojaei was kicked out in the semifinal of the event.

Twenty six-year-old Moradi is an Iranian middle distance runner who specializes in the 800 meters. He has a personal best of 1:44.74, which is also the Iranian national record.

About 9,000 athletes, coaches and officials from 143 countries and regions took part in the 2009 Summer Universiade officially, which raised its curtain on July 1, 2009 with a spectacular opening ceremony.
