Iran, Saudi Arabia keen to expand ties: FM

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi said Saturday that Iran and Saudi Arabia were keen to promote bilateral ties as two major states in the region, IRNA reported.

However, there are some who seek to confuse the situation, Salehi told reporters in a joint press conference held after a meeting with his counterpart from Benin.

He was commenting on the recent reports about the statement made by a Saudi official against Iran.

"That was an article written by an un-named author in a Saudi newspaper and we are not to react to any comments appeared in any papers", said the foreign minister.

He stressed that the statement was an un-official position made by a Saudi individual.

If an official position was made, it would receive an official response too, Salehi added.

The foreign minister urged media not to pay any attention to every un-official statement and try to "prevent adding to the problems."
