Iran imported more than 1.5 million tons of rice last year, or 36.7 percent more compared to the previous year, the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA) reports.
The import value was more than $1.5 billion last year compared to $916 million the previous year (Iran's solar year ended on March 19).
India, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were the biggest exporters of rice to Iran.
Indian rice exports totaled $393 million while exports of the UAE and Pakistan to Iran hit $539 and $181 million respectively.
