Iran has officially invited Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah to attend the forthcoming summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran in late August, Press TV reported.

Vice President for Legal Affairs Fatemeh Bodaghi extended the Iranian chief executive Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's invitation to Sultan of Brunei in a meeting on Thursday.

The 16th NAM summit will be held on August 26-31 in the Iranian capital, Tehran. Iran will receive the rotating presidency of the movement from Egypt for three years during the Tehran summit.

An international organization with some 120 member states and 17 observer countries, NAM represents nearly two-thirds of the UN members.

During the meeting, the Iranian official pointed to Iran-Brunei relations and said cultural commonalities between the two countries could pave the way for promoting bilateral ties.

Bodaghi also said that Iran and Brunei could expand cooperation in hygiene, medical care and Islamic tourism as well.

The Sultan of Brunei, for his part, referred to his previous visits to Iran and described his meetings with President Ahmadinejad as fruitful. He said that his country would actively participate in the NAM meeting.
