Iran allots funds to constructional projects in Kurdistan province

Iran allocated 6.08 trillion rials ($196.1 million) to major constructional projects in the western Kurdistan province.

Iran's Vice-President for Planning and Strategic Supervision, Mohammad-Baqer Nobakht, said on May 13 that the Kurdistan province needs at least 70 trillion rials just to finish its incomplete projects.

"Kurdeitan needs more than this budget to fill the gap with other provinces," he said.

"The government is ready to allocate more of the budget to Kurdestan in the next three months, in case the province's officials present any economically-justified project," he noted.

"Iran's oil revenues are around $22 billion annually, out of which 31 percent belongs to people," Nobakht explained.

Kurdistan Province or Kordestan Province or Kurdistan Province is one of the 31 provinces of Iran.

The province of Kurdistan is 28,817 km² in area. It is located in the west of Iran and bound by Iraq on the west, the province of West Azerbaijan to its north, Zanjan to the northeast, Hamedan to the east andKermanshah to the south.

The capital of Kurdistan Province is the city of Sanandaj. Other counties with their major cities are Marivan, Baneh, Saqqez, Qorveh, Bijar,Kamyaran, Dehgolan, Diwandarreh and Sarvabad.

The major activities of the inhabitants are agriculture and modern livestock farming. Wheat, barley, grains and fruits are the major agricultural products.

The chemical, metal, textile, leather and food industries are also the main industrial activities in the province.
