Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade emphasized the need to nominate a special envoy representing Iran's National Handmade Carpet Center and Provincial Carpet Centers to attend Expo 2020 Dubai, Trend reports citing ILNA.
Citing the export statistics for handmade carpets, Hossein Moddares Khiabani noted that when non-oil exports reached $4-5 billion, the value of the exported carpets was between $200 million and 300 million.
"Now, as the country's exports exceed $40 billion, the share of carpets doesn't exceed half a billion dollars," the deputy minister added.
“The first request from the National Carpet Center of Iran is that within the next week, a Working Group on Manufacturing and Exporting Handmade Carpets will be established with participation of private sector. The group shall also include representatives of customs services and the Central Bank,” Khiabani said.
“Expo 2020 Dubai will be a big international event and the largest event in the Arab world,” he said. “Iranian carpets should be well presented at the exhibition to showcase carpets from 31 provinces of the country.”
