Iran Materials 26 September 2006 17:15 (UTC +04:00)

(Hurriyet) - State Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin has responded to accusations that the recent raise in public servants' wages had not raised their purchasing power, saying "Before we (the AKP administration) came into power, a public servant was able to buy a refrigerator or television with two or three monthly salaries. Now a public servant can buy these things with only one monthly salary. Which means spending power has raised, not gone down.", reports Trend.

Making further statements to the press about the monthly wages of public servants, Minister Sahin said "It is important for us that the purchasing power of public servants not have fallen during our term....."
