(www.irna.ir) вЂ" An Iranian oil tanker was reported leaking a large amount of oil into the waters off the Algerian coast Friday night, it was reported by the local media Sunday.

The 85,000-ton tanker was reported to be loading oil in an oil rig near Skikda port, 500km east of the Algerian capital Algiers, reports Trend.

It was immediately transferred to a safe and farther place after it was clear that it was leaking oil, the reports added.

A special team has been rushed to the site where the tanker is reportedly leading oil to try to stop the leakage and examine damage possibly caused by the spill.

The team has collected dirt from oil spilled on the waters using chemical anti-pollutants, the reports said.

There is no information regarding the situation of the tanker or further details on the oil spill.
