The consumption of liquid fuel including diesel oil and fuel oil in Iran over one week (ending on Dec. 25) amounted to 742.6 million liters.

The number relates to different sections, including power plants, consuming 556.5 million liters of diesel oil and 186.1 million liters of fuel oil, the oil ministry's official SHANA news agency reported Dec. 30.

The peak consumption for diesel oil was registered at 103.1 million liters on Dec. 19 (Saturday), and the lowest record was 57.9 million liters on Dec. 25(Friday).

Also, the peak consumption for fuel oil was 34.8 million liters which was registered Dec. 19 (Saturday), and the lowest record was 26.6 million liters on Dec. 25 (Friday).

The report added that the average consumption for the week was 79.5 million liters for diesel oil and 26.5 million liters for fuel oil.

Iran has reduced the supply of liquid fuel to power plants as it plans to replace liquid fuel with natural gas.

Over 50 billion cubic meters of gas were supplied to the country's power plants last fiscal year (ended on March 20), 15 billion cubic meters more compared to its preceding year.

The supply of liquid fuel to power plants decreased by 1.8 billion liters in the past Iranian fiscal year.

During the 285 days into the current Iranian-calendar year (since March 21), over 48.6 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas was delivered to power plants, 7 bcm more year on year.

Over 83 percent of total electricity output in Iran is generated in thermal power plants, fueled by diesel oil, fuel oil and natural gas.
