MDwind to invest in Iran’s energy sector

MDwind, a giant European company engaged in installation and maintenance of wind turbines, will invest in Iran's energy sector, the company's head Matthieu Dessailly said, IRNA news agency reported.

According to the report, MDWind considers training Iranian experts on wind turbines and a group of its managers will visit Iran within the coming weeks.

Matthieu Dessailly further said that the company's subsidiary namely "MDWind Iran" will be established in the country.

In December last year it was reported that Iranian government plans to offer guaranteed purchase terms to domestic and international investors who contribute to the construction of power plants that obtain power from non-exhaustible resources.

According to Iran Power Generation and Transmission Company (TAVANIR), Tehran aims to obtain five percent of its electricity through renewable energy sources by 2021.

Iran's power generation capacity currently stands at around 74,000 MW, of that some 12,000 MW is generated via hydroelectric power plants, 1000 MW via nuclear power plant and the remaining is produced by thermal power plants.

According to the latest annual report Iran's capacity of producing renewable energy stands at 232 megawatts, 0.31 percent of the country's total power generation capacity.

Iranians consumed about 219 billion kilowatt hour of power between March 2014 and March 2015.
The country used 1,271 billion cubic feet of gas, as well as 28 billion liters of gas oil and fuel oil for power generation between March 2014 and 2015.
