By Khalid Kazimov – Trend:

Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Valiollah Seif has called on Luxembourg to create branches of Iranian and Luxembourg banks in both countries.

Seif has said Iran and Luxembourg in order to expand relations need to create strong banking ties, CBI website reported.

He made the remarks at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister of Luxembourg Etienne Schneider in Tehran.

After creating the branches of banks of Iran and Luxembourg in both countries, the banking ties between the two states will gradually increase, he added.

Although the nuclear related sanctions on Iran were lifted following the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on January 16, Iran still has difficulty establishing banking ties with leading European banks as they are worried about running afoul of US regulations.

Iranian officials have recently held several talks with European officials aimed at removing obstacles against establishing banking ties.
