Iran eyes petrochemical co-op with Germany, Denmark

Marzieh Shah-Daei, head of the National Petrochemical Company of Iran (NPC), has discussed ways of cooperation with German ThyssenKrupp AG and Danish Haldor Topsoe.

At two separate meetings on the sidelines of the trade fair for plastics and rubber in Germany’s Düsseldorf, Sah-Daei briefed senior officials of German ThyssenKrupp AG and Danish Haldor Topsoe about Iran’s petrochemical industry as well as opportunities for investment in the petrochemicals sector, SHANA news agency reported Oct. 20.

According to the report, Haldor Topsoe senior officials have expressed interest in cooperation on Iran’s projects on urea and ammonia as well as methanol.

In the meantime, ThyssenKrupp AG officials announced readiness for cooperation in Iran’s PVC projects.

The trade fair K 2016, which presents innovations of the international plastics and rubber industry, opened in Düsseldorf on Oct. 19 and will continue until Oct. 26.

Iran has already launched talks with Germany’s Siemens, BASF and Linde to boost cooperation in petrochemical sector.

The Islamic Republic needs to lure $52 billion in investment in order to increase its petrochemical products output from the current 60 million tons per year (mt/y) to 130 mt/y by 2021.
