Iran bans fishing of pink shrimps

Iran has temporarily barred the pink shrimps fishing in the fishing zones of the northwestern parts of the Persian Gulf in a bid to protect the species.

Fishery organization of Iran's Khouzestan Province has announced that fishing the shrimp is against the law, Mehr news agency reported.

Iran annually produces about 3,000 tons of shrimps in the northwestern parts of the Persian Gulf.

Over the last Iranian fiscal year (starting March 20) the country produced about 43,000 tons of various types of fishery in the northwestern region of the Persian Gulf, indicating 10 percent drop year on year.
