Trend:

Iran's hydroelectric power plants should hit a unique record this summer, Managing Director of Iran's Water Resources Management Company said Mohammad Hajj-Rasouliha said.

He made the remarks at the 29th meeting of the technical committee of the country's hydroelectric power plants, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"This year due to the rainfalls we had, the volume of major reservoirs of dams, especially the country's power dams, had a significant increase,” he said.

“According to available statistics, last year, more than 15,700 gigawatts of electricity production were generated at hydroelectric power plants, 50 percent of which was produced in three winter months of the last Iranian year (ended on March21),” he said.

“This amount is a significant number and has resulted in more than 2 billion cubic meters of fuel saving at these plants,” he added.

"The optimal use of the dam reservoir resources is the main axis of power generation this summer,” he said. “Given the potential of existing water resources, we should be able to produce more 50 percent more electricity higher than in 2017, and increase the production capacity by at least 70 percent.”

He also called for the creation of working groups to manage the peak consuming times this summer.
