Iran approves utilization of fresh water for shrimp farms

TEHRAN, Iran, July 26

Iran's Ministry of Energy has approved the utilization of fresh water from the Caspian Sea without desalination for fish farming and agriculture and industrial projects in the Golestan Province, the Governor of Golestan Province Hadi Haghshenas told Trend.

"The permit for using 2 billion cubic meters of fresh water for shrimp farms and agriculture sector has been issued," he said.

"The project would utilize fresh water and for city of Gorgan and nearby cities for normal consumption and main part of fresh water would be provided for shrimp farms and agriculture sector," he said.

"The permit has been issued last week and the implementation of the project was postponed until the new government of Iran takes on its duties," he said.

"The governorate of Golestan Province has obtained a permit to establish shrimp farms on an area of 6,000 hectares," he said.
