Heavy storm in Tabriz city, Iran's East Azerbaijan Province has claimed 3 lives.

The wind uprooted Tabriz Medical School's sentry box. The security guard inside the box died of injuries shortly after.

Also, wind and heavy hail destroyed two houses in Chavan, a village near Tabriz. A 12-year-old boy and a 27-year-old man were injured, who succumbed to the injuries in hospital, IRNA news agency reported April 12.

Elsewhere in Tabriz, a utility pole fell by heavy wind, wounding two passersby, Hosseinqoli Zadeh, public relations director of the Disaster Management and Medical Emergency Center of East Azerbaijan Province said.

Water is flowing over the streets of Tabriz and the crops of farmlands around the city have been severely damaged.

At least five people were killed and 35 others injured during a storm that hit the Iranian south eastern province of Khuzestan last August.

The wind was reportedly up to 90 kilometers per hour.

Iran is often hit by storms, mostly dust storms, as five more people have been killed in another storm on June 2, 2014 in Tehran.

Heavy storms in Iran force the authorities to close governmental offices, as well as educational and industrial centers in the country.
